JOHN DONNELLY & GEOFF DAVIES (MAN TRUCK & BUS)

TECHNICAL GURUS (PART FOUR)

Sadly, since the interview below, John Donnelly, the recently-retired MAN Truck & Bus UK heavy haulage vehicles sales expert, has suddenly passed away. Our thoughts at this time are with Sue, John’s wife. Before publication both Sue and John read the feature and gave it their blessing. They were insistent we didn’t make changes or remove it from print. The interview gives a unique insight into John’s career and the contribution he made to the heavy haulage industry. Having worked in the industry for a number of decades, John with his expertise, knowledge and understanding, has in many ways, helped shape heavy haulage traction to what we see today. SEAMLESS TRANSITION

CONTINUING OUR SERIES OF CONVERSATIONS WITH CHASSIS MANUFACTURERS, BRIAN WEATHERLEY TALKS TO GEOFF DAVIES, MAN’S HEAVY HAULAGE AND SPECIAL VEHICLE SALES EXPERT TOGETHER WITH HIS PREDECESSOR JOHN DONNELLY AT COLLETT TRANSPORT, ONE OF THE LION BRAND’S LONG-STANDING CUSTOMERS.

What’s the collective noun for a gathering of heavy-haulage specialists? If you can think of one let us know. Heavy Torque has come to Goole, home to Collett Transport’s abnormal loads operation, to talk to Geoff Davies, MAN’s heavy haulage and special vehicle sales expert and his highly-respected, predecessor John Donnelly. Our host is Collett MD David Collett, while for good measure technical director Lincoln Collett is in attendance too. It’s no coincidence Goole is the venue for our conversation. The award-winning Yorkshire heavy-load specialist is a long-standing MAN operator, a fact proven by the number of immaculate 6x4 and 8x4 tractors bearing the iconic Lion badge parked outside.

After 26-years selling MAN trucks in the UK, and especially its heavy-haulage products, earlier this year Donnelly officially retired. Meanwhile, Davies has an equally-impressive track-record in heavy-haulage sales having been the STGO specialist at Western Commercial, Mercedes-Benz’s Bellshill dealership since 2000, before joining MAN Truck & Bus (UK) in April as Donnelly’s replacement. All-in all it looks like a seamless transition.

Announcement

HeavyTorque White Logo

It is with regret, that the HeavyTorque team have decided to take a stand based on an industry-wide ‘blind eye’ to the waste in the magazine and periodicals business.

HeavyTorque (#15, July 2018) was the final issue to grace the shop shelves, both on the High Street and across the travel network. As part of our onward strategy to adapt, HeavyTorque will now be distributed exclusively through controlled circulation and available through printed subscription.

Please note, this change will only affect newsstand purchasers. There will be no change for our loyal print subscribers.

Why the newsstand change? Quite simply, we can no longer (in good conscience) participate in a distribution programme that creates such an inherent waste of our precious natural resources – and money.

For those of you who have enjoyed HeavyTorque from the newsstand, we sincerely appreciate your business – and we would hope that you’ve enjoyed the magazine enough to consider a direct subscription?
