Redruth-based Highway Plant Hire has purchased a new short-length plant body which has been designed and manufactured by Andover Trailers to help the business deliver plant to sites with restricted access across Cornwall.

At just 6.15m long, the LPPB18 plant body is mounted to an 18 tonne MAN TGM 4×2 rigid and can carry loads of up to 9.4 tonnes.

Ian Powell, Director at Highway Plant Hire, says: “Many of the customers we need to reach are located in isolated areas; the new plant body helps us to achieve excellent vehicle manoeuvrability without sacrificing payload capacity.

“We know from experience that the bodies Andover manufactures will outlast the vehicles they are mounted to. They are built incredibly strong and offer reliable service year after year; it’s why we’ve worked with them for more than a decade.”

The bespoke-built body features a double crank beavertail connected to a pair of 2.5m long hydraulic power toe ramps, plus a Ramsey hydraulic winch mounted in the headboard to aid loading and unloading.

Load security in transit is guaranteed through the provision of seven pairs of lashing points, which allow Highway Plant Hire to secure a wide range of plant to the body.

Powell concludes: “We have been in business for 40 years and we work hard to provide a first class service. Our long relationship with Andover comes from the knowledge that we can rely on their bodies and trailers when we are serving our customers.”
