Italian engineering company Fagioli S.p.A. recently handled the transport of two huge vessels. It was the biggest project ever done within the port of Marghera.

The two hydrocracking reactors with a combined total weight of more than 3000t have been manufactured at Italian ATB Riva Calzoni sites located in Roncadelle and Venice. From there, Fagioli moved them to the port from where they were then shipped to Nigeria. The vessels are destined to the first private Nigerian refinery of the Dangote Refining Ltd company.

Each pressure vessel, among the largest ever produced in the world for the petrochemical sector, has a weight of 1,535t and measures 60 meters in length. This sets a record for the Italian port, from which no heavier shipments have ever been carried out before.

The transport project of the reactors from the plant to the sea terminal has been managed by Fagioli S.p.A.. In accordance with the ground pressure restrictions onsite, 72 axles of Cometto MSPE 40t were combined. In total, the self-propelled transporters with electronic steering formed two convoys of more than 60 meters in length, 8.5 meters in width and 10 meters in height each.

The Cometto MSPE is able to fulfill any cargo requirement, without limits of payload capacity and size, offering the best maneuverability and efficiency. The full interchangeability and expandability of the system help to satisfy any customer’s need.
