Headquartered in the village of Marston Moretaine in Bedfordshire, NMT Crane Hire was born out of a commercial recovery company set up by three brothers in the long, hot summer of 1976. Nick, Mark and Tim Ambridge gave their initials to the enterprise, but they soon realised that the cranes, which had become a necessary part of their business, were actually making more money. Managing director Mark told us: “The commercial recovery business had been going pretty well – and it certainly got us off the ground – but it soon became apparent that there was more profit in the crane-hire services we were developing.” He added: “In 1992 we bought our first 200 tonne crane and let the recovery business go. Which let us specialise in the heavy lift sector, and develop our expertise there.”
