DEALER PROFILE

HeavyTorque Issue Eleven: Western Commercial

BRAVE MOVE

A YEAR AGO, MERCEDES-BENZ TRUCK AND VAN DEALER WESTERN COMMERCIAL MADE AN EXTREMELY BOLD DECISION: TO CREATE A ROLE FOR A SPECIALIST SALES EXECUTIVE TO WORK WITH THE HEAVY HAULAGE INDUSTRY. MARGO COLE REPORTS.

Western Commercial is Scotland’s largest Mercedes- Benz commercial vehicle dealer, and is part of the Eastern Western Motor Group. The company operates out of four sites across Scotland, at Bellshill, Broxburn, Govan and Dundee, but its heavy haulage sales specialist has a UK-wide remit. The person fulfilling the new specialist role is Geoff Davies, a well-respected name in the industry who developed his knowledge and expertise during stints with Foden Trucks and Nooteboom Trailers, as well as with various Mercedes-Benz dealers. Davies first began trying to interest heavy hauliers in Mercedes- Benz trucks in the early 2000s, when the company released the Actros SLT Titan. “When I started, they didn’t offer a heavy haulage truck up to 250 tonnes,” he recalls. “Then Mercedes-Benz released the SLT Titan, and they were asking if there was anyone in the UK that might be interested.”

Announcement

HeavyTorque White Logo

It is with regret, that the HeavyTorque team have decided to take a stand based on an industry-wide ‘blind eye’ to the waste in the magazine and periodicals business.

HeavyTorque (#15, July 2018) was the final issue to grace the shop shelves, both on the High Street and across the travel network. As part of our onward strategy to adapt, HeavyTorque will now be distributed exclusively through controlled circulation and available through printed subscription.

Please note, this change will only affect newsstand purchasers. There will be no change for our loyal print subscribers.

Why the newsstand change? Quite simply, we can no longer (in good conscience) participate in a distribution programme that creates such an inherent waste of our precious natural resources – and money.

For those of you who have enjoyed HeavyTorque from the newsstand, we sincerely appreciate your business – and we would hope that you’ve enjoyed the magazine enough to consider a direct subscription?
