EUROPEAN TRAILER MARKET

HeavyTorque Issue Three: European Trailer Market

EUROPEAN TRAILER MARKET

WITH A WEALTH OF TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE FROM THE LEADING EUROPEAN TRAILER MAKERS, HEAVY HAULAGE OPERATORS ARE ALMOST SPOILT FOR CHOICE. BOB BEECH TAKES A LOOK AT THE PRODUCTS AVAILABLE FROM THE MAJOR PLAYERS AND ANALYSES THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS.

Manufacturers are constantly both updating existing designs and introducing new products aimed at different sectors of the market, with new tyre, axle and suspension technology being the driving force behind many of these developments, allowing heavy loads to be carried at higher speeds, combined with more efficient braking and greater manoeuvrability, even with very long loads. Many manufacturers continue to refine the design of their step frame and low loader trailers, making it easier and faster to load and unload heavy construction plant, often allowing relatively large machines to be carried complete, dramatically reducing downtime when arriving on site.

Also, the use of new high strength steel along with other specialist materials reduce unladen weight, improve payloads and have greater resistance to fatigue and distortion when under load. These new developments are being introduced right across the weight range and have particular significance with the largest modular trailers when used in girder bridge form, resulting in some dramatic reductions in unladen weight for the biggest outfits.

Announcement

HeavyTorque White Logo

It is with regret, that the HeavyTorque team have decided to take a stand based on an industry-wide ‘blind eye’ to the waste in the magazine and periodicals business.

HeavyTorque (#15, July 2018) was the final issue to grace the shop shelves, both on the High Street and across the travel network. As part of our onward strategy to adapt, HeavyTorque will now be distributed exclusively through controlled circulation and available through printed subscription.

Please note, this change will only affect newsstand purchasers. There will be no change for our loyal print subscribers.

Why the newsstand change? Quite simply, we can no longer (in good conscience) participate in a distribution programme that creates such an inherent waste of our precious natural resources – and money.

For those of you who have enjoyed HeavyTorque from the newsstand, we sincerely appreciate your business – and we would hope that you’ve enjoyed the magazine enough to consider a direct subscription?
