Heavy transport specialist, Spedition Meier & Sohn was the first German customer to take delivery of a CombiMAX combination from Faymonville. The Biederitz-based company has been using Faymonville trailers for the past 25 years. The CombiMAX has two goosenecks, 16 axles, one add-on-beam as well as extendable vessel bridges which allow for the simultaneous use of two units.
The modular system allows Meier & Sohn to quickly adapt kit for the job at hand. “For us, the CombiMAX is primarily used in connection with orders for the wind energy industry,” says general manager Bernd Meier. “But we also use the variable possibilities for deploying the CombiMAX either as a lowbed or a semi-combination for machinery and installations, transformers or boilers. In addition, we’ve already been able to show what it can do in the construction sector.”
Recently, the company put together a 12-axle semi-low loader with telescopic add-on beam for the transport of an industrial boiler which weighed 85 tonnes, was 30m long and had a diameter of 5m. With the combination giving a potential payload of over 150 tonnes it was the length of the load which provided the challenge.
“The fast conversion as well as variability are great advantages for us as a relatively small company,” says Meier. “That way we don´t need to have every type of low-loader in our fleet, which we couldn’t use to full capacity in any case. The CombiMAX is used every day and its flexibility makes it a valuable tool.”
