THREE DAYS TO REMEMBER
Now for 2018 we are proud to announce that The Heavies will be part of a new three-day industry festival: HeavyTorque LIVE!
This will be the UK’s only dedicated event for the heavy and specialist transport sector bringing every aspect of this unique industry together in one place, featuring heavy truck and specialist trailer manufacturers, along with major heavy haulage operators. It provides the opportunity for the industry to demonstrate what it has to offer and allows owners, managers and the workforce to meet together and celebrate everything that makes the heavy transport industry so special. In addition, it’s a chance for equipment manufacturers, dealers, trade associations, regulatory bodies and transport enthusiasts to meet and exchange views, opinions and ideas.
HeavyTorque LIVE! will be an all-action event, featuring fully-loaded heavy haulage and abnormal load outfits allowing drivers and crews the opportunity to demonstrate the sophisticated equipment that they use to move the biggest loads on the road. It will also include loading/unloading demonstrations showcasing the technical complexity and outstanding capabilities of modern heavy haulage equipment. This will include the use of specialist truck-mounted cranes and other heavy lift equipment, also there will be a competition with prizes for the most outstanding teams.
Heavy tractor units and specialist rigid chassis from major truck manufacturers. These vehicles are capable of operation at gross weights of 250 tonnes, or far more when used in multiple combinations. They are powered by the highest output engines and utilise the latest transmission technology along with highly sophisticated braking systems and heavy-duty axles, chassis frames and many other features.
CARRYING THAT WEIGHT
Specialist trailers and modular systems that utilise electronically controlled hydraulic systems to operate steering and suspension units. Heavy low-loaders, purpose-built step-frames, extendible trailers capable of carrying the longest loads to move on our roads. The sophisticated designs that allow trailers to be reconfigured to handle a huge range of cargoes. Leading trailer manufacturers are engaged in a never-ending battle to find new ways of moving bigger, higher, longer, wider, heavier loads safely, with minimum inconvenience to other road users.
THE ART OF LIFTING
Truck and trailer mounted cranes are bigger and stronger than ever, capable of lifting heavy weights over great distances and to great heights. Conventional mobile cranes play a huge part in this sector, along with sophisticated lifting, jacking and skidding systems. Getting the big load to its destination is often only part of the job, lifting and installing equipment to its required location is a true art form.
BLASTS FROM THE PAST
Vintage/classic heavy trucks and trailers. Many specialist operators have a keen sense of their own heritage. Over the generations, numerous family-based concerns have developed the equipment which has often paid a pivotal role in the success of their business. Quite a number have either retained older trucks and trailers, or restored similar trucks and trailers to keep in touch with their roots. Also a large number of enthusiasts and collectors have restored heavy haulage equipment for others to enjoy.
SMALL YET PERFECTLY FORMED
Model, collectors and transport historians have spent years building collections of fantastic scale models of heavy haulage equipment, along with photographs and other records of the specialist transport industry.
Entertainment throughout the day, with food, drink, competitions and other demonstrations to keep all family members happy.
