TRUCKS, CRANES, TRAILERS AND MANY VARIED EXHIBITORS FROM ALL OVER EUROPE DESCEND ON AMSTERDAM FOR A FINE DISPLAY OF THE OLD AND THE NEW IN THE HEAVY TRANSPORT WORLD AT MACK AND SPECIAL TRANSPORT DAY 2017. REPORT BY DAVID POLLOCK.
The Amstelborgh Borchland site in Amsterdam played host to the 38th Truckstar Mack and Special Transport Day, a fine array of old-fashioned transport mixed with a huge feast of heavy transport and equipment. Operators and owners from all over Europe converged for the annual meeting & exhibition which was held on 8 October. The man behind the world-famous show is Willem Kuiper Sr. There was plenty on offer for all the family as the showground was once again packed out with a huge variety of over 100 Macks, Kenworths, Peterbilts, Internationals and many other marques. There was also a huge selection of cranes, heavy transport & trailer combinations, vintage classics and FTF trucks.
An array of crane companies like Mammoet, Verschoor, Jos Blom and Saan pulled out all the stops and put together a huge show of cranes covering a massive variety of capacities including a stunning Liebherr LTM1500 from Mammoet. Not everything at the show was American, old or heavy. For example, the newly introduced Scania NextGen from Rene Lammers BV was on show. Sponsor Nooteboom also had a stunning display of the its latest heavy transportation trailers and technology.
Inside, the driver’s market, had over 20 stands including, among others, HeavyTorque, Truckstar Magazine as well Scale Model producers IMC, WSI, Mammoet and many others. Over in hall two there was a slideshow and old timers movie running throughout the day, supplemented with a stunning display of scale models, including some rather interesting Lego models.
