HeavyTorque Issue 7: Micro Modellers

MICRO MODELLERS

TRUCK MODEL MAKERS AND COLLECTORS ARE QUITE COMMON IN THE NETHERLANDS. LEONARD LOOIJENGA MEETS TWO ‘MASTER MODELLERS’ THERE TO FIND OUT WHAT DRIVES THEIR PASSION FOR HEAVY HAULAGE AND RECOVERY MINIATURES.

“I started modelling when I was 16 years old and now I’m 61”, says truck modelling enthusiast Henry van den Berg. “Back then, my collection consisted of a few DAF models made by Lion Toys. These days, I’ve modified models from virtually every model maker you can imagine – although I only collect and build them in a 1:50 scale.”

Fellow modeller Martijn Teunissen nods in agreement. “Despite the fact that I’m quite a bit younger – I’m 43 and have been a modeller since I was 19 – I have also been involved with 1:50 scale models only,” he says. “At that scale, there was always a large choice of different models. Over the years, lots of parts and accessories have become available at that scale too, and last but not least, it’s very well suited to building from scratch using plastic and metal profiles and sheets.”
