EARLY IN OCTOBER THIS YEAR, HEAVY TORQUE VISITED THE ANNUAL MACK AND SPECIAL TRANSPORT DAY IN AMSTERDAM. THREE STRIKING ORANGE AND BLACK TRACTORS EQUIPPED WITH HUGE LOADING CRANES WERE ON DISPLAY. IMPRESSED, WE PHONED THE COMPANY, WHICH RESULTED IN A VISIT. OWNER MARCO VAN GRINSVEN KINDLY TOOK THE TIME TO TELL HIS STORY, SHOWING LEONARD LOOIJENGA AROUND HIS YARD IN SCHAIJK, THE NETHERLANDS.
“My father founded the company 53 years ago in Nistelrode. He bought a used recovery truck, with a military background, and converted it with a longer jib to do crane jobs. 12 years later the company moved to its curent location in Schaijk. At first the vehicles were completely orange. However, they looked very similar to Harry Vos trucks, a well-known transport company based here in the area as well.
So we added black doors to our van Grinsven livery – to stand out more,” says Marco. “I took over the helm from my father 26 years ago. At that time our fleet only consisted of 10 cranes and 2 trucks. The company is still family owned. My sister, Anita, is a shareholder as well. She is responsible for the business administration. However I’m in charge of running the company – as you can’t have two captains on one ship.”
