In an important conquest sale for Thomas Hardie Commercials, Middlewich, three Volvo FH-500 tractor units, including a 65-tonne GCW tag-axle unit, have entered service with Somerford, Congleton, Cheshire-based, specialist haulier J. K. Ashbrook Ltd.

These are the first Volvo trucks to join the seven-strong fleet, which specialises in low loader work, contract haulage and movements of construction machines. The order comprises, an FH 6×2 tag-axle tractor unit, plated for up to 65-tonnes GCW for STGO CAT 2 operation and two FH 6×2 Pusher-Axle tractor units for 44-tonnes operation. The Globetrotter-cabbed, 3.9 metre wheelbase tractor units are equipped with I-Shift automated gearboxes.

While the FH tag-axle tractor unit is engaged on UK and international duties, delivering and collecting machines, the two FH 6×2 Pusher-Axle units deliver pre-cast concrete products in the North-West of England.

All three new trucks are being maintained by Thomas Hardie Commercials, Middlewich on five-year, Volvo Gold R&M contracts. Thomas Hardie Commercials are also maintaining the company’s three new Faymonville step-frame trailers under contract at Middlewich. Transport Manager Jay Harper reports that the company decided to specify Volvo for the first time because of the keen price of the three trucks and the flexibility of Thomas Hardie Commercials, Middlewich in meeting their needs for weekend and trailer servicing.
