The new 700-tonne crane will significantly strengthen the crane fleet of the company based in Santiago de Querétaro in central Mexico. To date, a 350-tonner was its largest mobile crane.

Gruas y Maniobras del Bajio had been planning to purchase a mobile crane with a lifting capacity of over 500 tonnes for some time. A company spokesperson explains: “When we saw the new crane in the Liebherr UpLoad magazine and on the website, we immediately realised that the LTM 1650-8.1, the successor to the legendary LTM 1500-8.1, was the best option among the 8-axle mobile cranes. It is both powerful and innovative.”

GMB will use the new 700-tonner for a wide range of applications; for infrastructure and construction projects, in industry and on wind farms. The company has therefore purchased the LTM 1650-8.1 with 54 and 80-metre telescopic booms, Y-boom guying and the complete luffing jib. The new crane will open up new markets for GMB, as the company’s fleet capacity was previously limited to 350 tonnes.

The Mexican company has around 30 employees and operates work platforms, forklift trucks and a wide range of transport vehicles in its fleet, as well as 25 mobile cranes in various performance classes, of which the majority come from Liebherr. “We call ourselves ‘The House of Liebherr in Querétaro’. Because Liebherr is simply the best brand on the market,” says the company spokesperson. “We want to continue to grow, to be the leading crane company in our region and the best option for our customers. Liebherr mobile cranes help us to achieve this.”
